What Does FSC Certification Actually Mean?
The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certifies that wood fibre comes from forests managed to environmental, social and economic standards. For packaging, it applies to paper, carton board, kraft and rigid-box wrap paper. Certification is granted through a chain-of-custody (CoC) audit that tracks fibre from forest to finished carton.
What Are the Three FSC Labels?
Not all FSC claims are equal. Pick the label that matches your fibre mix:

Does FSC Packaging Cost More?
Expect a modest premium over non-certified board, usually in the single-digit to low-double-digit percent range. For most export brands the easier retail access and lower compliance risk outweigh the small unit-cost increase. No. You must hold or buy from a CoC-certified supplier and use the exact label and wording they authorise. Printing it without approval is greenwashing.
Is FSC the same as recycled?
No. FSC covers responsible forestry; “FSC Recycled” is the variant for post-consumer fibre. Recycled content alone is not FSC unless certified.
How long is an FSC certificate valid?
CoC certificates are typically valid for five years with annual surveillance audits; always check the expiry date on the document you receive.
